Kalgoorlie residents disappointed with Super Pit expansion
Kalgoorlie residents have expressed disappoinment with a decision to expand the Super Pit mine.
Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines was given the approval by the Department of Environment and Conservation to expand its Super Pit mine, extending its operation until 2017.
The Environment Minister David Templeman says the Department will monitor dust and noise levels from the mine but Kalgoorlie residents say they have had enough.
Property owners have complained about damage to their homes such as cracking.
Kalgoorlie resident Kevin Bartle says it is the impact of blasting from the mine.
"Oh just a lot of hard work and heartache and having to put up with what is done by way of their blasting and the dust emissions," he said.
The Government says an environmental auditor has been appointed to monitor the operations of the mine.
